Why it matters
An unexplained blast at a police post in the NCR, followed by an online claim, can spread rumours fast. The on-record police position matters more than viral posts: the cause is still being investigated.
The cause of the Ghaziabad outpost blast is still not known, Police Commissioner J. Ravinder Goud said on Saturday, 7 November 2026. The explosion happened at about 9 pm on Friday near the rear wall of the Vasundhara police outpost, which comes under the Indirapuram police station. A food delivery worker who was there suffered minor injuries, the commissioner said in a statement reported by The Hindu.
Bomb disposal, field unit and forensic teams of the Uttar Pradesh police spent Saturday collecting evidence at the site. “We are examining the incident from every possible angle,” Goud said, adding that police would explain how the blast happened once the reports are ready.
Ghaziabad outpost blast: what happened on Friday night
According to the commissioner, police received information about the explosion at around 9 pm. A sub-inspector and a delivery worker, who had come to make a delivery, were at the spot at the time. The blast broke the window panes of the outpost, The Hindu reported.
Rijul, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for the Trans Hindon zone, gave more detail to Hindustan Times on Saturday morning. He said the blast took place while the two men were inside, caused cracks in the walls and broke the window glass. A piece of the shattered glass hit the delivery worker on the head. “The delivery man was taken to a hospital for treatment, and his condition is stable,” the DCP told HT. Officials said the explosion did not start a fire.
NewsPlainly is not naming the injured worker, a private person.

Police first suspected the air conditioner, then said the cause is open
The two police statements on the Ghaziabad blast came a few hours apart, and they are not the same. On Saturday morning, the DCP told Hindustan Times that a blast in the outpost’s air conditioning (AC) unit was suspected. “Prima facie, a blast in the AC unit is suspected,” he said. He called it an old outpost and said police were checking whether any sewer line or gas pipeline passing nearby could have caused it. HT reported that he denied the explosion was linked to any explosive substance.
By around midday, the commissioner’s statement did not settle on the AC unit or any other cause. “The investigation has not yet revealed the cause of the explosion,” he said. The later and more senior statement is the police position this article goes by: the cause is under investigation.
| Official | What he said | Where it was reported |
|---|---|---|
| Rijul, DCP Trans Hindon | Blast while two men were inside; AC unit suspected prima facie; checking sewer and gas lines; denied link to explosive substance | Hindustan Times, 7 November, updated 9.54 am |
| J. Ravinder Goud, Police Commissioner | Blast near the rear wall at about 9 pm; cause not yet revealed; all angles being examined; findings to be shared | The Hindu, 7 November, updated 12.54 pm |
Which agencies are at the Ghaziabad outpost blast site
The commissioner named three police teams at work: the Bomb Disposal Squad, the Field Unit and the Forensic Team. The DCP told HT that the fire department was also called to check the site.
The Hindu’s headline on the report said the state’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) was also at the site. Asked about the ATS, the commissioner did not go into detail. “All other aspects will be covered during the course of the investigation,” he said, adding that various agencies, including those of the Uttar Pradesh Police, were present. “We will share any findings with you as they emerge,” he said.

The online claim of responsibility is unverified
A post circulating on social media has claimed the Ghaziabad blast in the name of a group calling itself “Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen Hindustan”. The claim has not been verified. The Times of India reported that intelligence agencies are examining the post and tracing the accounts that shared it. Intelligence officials quoted by the paper, without being named, said no group by that name exists in counter-terrorism databases.
In the police statements quoted in these reports, neither officer linked the blast to any group. NewsPlainly is reporting the post only because investigators are examining it; it is a claim, not a finding.
What is known and what is not
Known about the Ghaziabad blast from police on record: the time (about 9 pm on Friday, 6 November), the place (the Vasundhara outpost under Indirapuram police station), one person with minor injuries who is stable, damage to walls and windows, and forensic and bomb disposal teams collecting evidence.
Not known yet: what exploded in the Ghaziabad outpost blast, and whether the AC unit, a pipeline or anything else was involved. The commissioner said the answer depends on the reports from the teams at the site. The commissioner’s quoted statement did not give a date for those reports.
For residents of Vasundhara and Indirapuram, the police message on the Ghaziabad outpost blast so far is that the investigation is open and findings will be shared. For more news from the state, see our Uttar Pradesh page.
