Why it matters

The higher rates are not only for future disasters: UP farm families who lost crops or animals since April are also covered. For a family that lost a member in a disaster, the payment is now twice as large.

UP disaster relief is going up sharply. The Uttar Pradesh government has doubled the help paid to the family of a person who dies in a natural disaster, from ₹4 lakh to ₹8 lakh, and raised crop loss compensation for farmers by about a quarter or more, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s office (CMO) said on 6 November 2026, according to the news agency Asian News International (ANI). Aaj Tak carried the same figures in its own report that morning.

The new rates reach back in time. Both reports say they apply to losses between 1 April and 4 November 2026, a period that takes in this year’s monsoon season. The CMO expects more than 10 lakh farmers in the state to benefit, ANI reported.

The money is paid under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), the two funds that pay for relief after floods, drought, excess rain and similar disasters. The state has set new standards for how much each kind of loss gets, from a hectare of wheat to a single chicken.

UP disaster relief rates: what changed for farmers

The biggest group helped is UP farmers who lost a crop. For land with irrigation, help rises from ₹17,000 to ₹22,000 a hectare. For rain-fed land, where farmers have no irrigation, it goes from ₹8,500 to ₹11,000 a hectare. Perennial crops and agroforestry, such as orchards and trees grown on farms, now get ₹30,000 a hectare instead of ₹22,500.

Reports described the rise in crop loss compensation as 25 to 30%. NewsPlainly worked out the change item by item from the old and new figures the two reports give. The main crop rates rise by about 29%, and a few other items rise by more.

Loss Old rate New rate Rise
Crop, irrigated land (per hectare) ₹17,000 ₹22,000 29.4%
Crop, rain-fed land (per hectare) ₹8,500 ₹11,000 29.4%
Perennial crops, agroforestry (per hectare) ₹22,500 ₹30,000 33.3%
Removing silt from farmland (per hectare) ₹18,000 ₹23,000 27.8%
Land hit by landslide or avalanche (per hectare) ₹47,000 ₹60,000 27.7%
Death of a person ₹4 lakh ₹8 lakh 100%

Take a hypothetical farmer whose crop on half a hectare of irrigated land was ruined. At the old rate that loss was worth ₹8,500 in relief. At the new rate it is ₹11,000, or ₹2,500 more. The reports did not say whether there is a limit on how many hectares one farmer can claim for, so the example stays small.

Cattle, goats and poultry: higher payments for animal deaths

Farm families also lose animals in floods and storms, and the SDRF rates for them are up too. A large animal such as a cow or buffalo now gets ₹50,000 instead of ₹40,000. For small animals like goats, sheep and pigs, the amount rises from ₹4,000 to ₹5,500, the steepest rise in percentage terms among the animal rates at 37.5%.

Horses and mules, which many families use to carry loads, now get ₹25,400 instead of ₹20,000. Poultry farmers will be paid ₹130 for each bird lost, up from ₹100.

Silk farmers are covered as well. Losses in Eri, mulberry and tasar silk production now get ₹7,800 a hectare, up from ₹6,000. For muga silk the rate goes from ₹7,500 to ₹9,800 a hectare, both reports said.

Homes, relief camps and schools under the new norms

UP disaster relief under the new standards is not only about farms. A house that is completely destroyed in a disaster now gets ₹1.85 lakh in the plains and ₹2.06 lakh in hilly areas. A partly damaged house in the plains gets ₹93,000. The reports did not give the old figures for houses, so this article does not say how much they rose.

Families forced out of their homes can be supported in relief camps for up to 30 days. When drought strikes, drinking water can be supplied for up to 90 days, Aaj Tak and ANI reported.

Public buildings get repair money under the same rules. Primary schools damaged in a disaster can get up to ₹15.50 lakh. Secondary schools, intermediate colleges and polytechnics can get up to ₹26 lakh. ANI said new standards were also set for repairing roads and hospitals, without giving the amounts.

What the crop loss compensation order does not say yet

The announcement leaves some practical questions open, and they matter to a farmer deciding what to do next. The reports read did not explain how UP farmers whose losses were already assessed at the old rate will get the difference, or whether they need to apply again. They gave no deadline. They also did not say what rate applies to losses after 4 November 2026.

They also gave no helpline or portal for questions about SDRF claims. The government order itself was not available online when this article was written; this report relies on the CMO’s figures as carried by ANI and Aaj Tak.
