Why it matters
For over 9.34 crore farm families, ₹2,000 lands just before Diwali. The count is about 10 lakh lower than on the June release day, and the ministry's release did not say why, so farmers expecting the money should check their status and e-KYC on the portal.
The PM Kisan 24th instalment went out on 30 October 2026. Prime Minister Narendra Modi released it at a farmers’ gathering in Banaskantha, Gujarat, sending ₹2,000 each to eligible farm families. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, the transfer is worth more than ₹18,690 crore and reaches over 9.34 crore farmers.
The money moves by Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), straight into bank accounts linked to Aadhaar. Farmers waiting for the credit can do a PM Kisan status check on the official portal, and there are a few reasons a payment can be held back, which we explain below.
What the Prime Minister said in Banaskantha
Moneycontrol reported that the instalment was released from Bhildi in Banaskantha district. Modi held a roadshow in the district and visited the Bharat Bovine Breeding and Research Centre, a 127-acre cattle facility at Bhildi that works on the Kankrej breed, according to the news agency ANI.
“Today, another instalment of PM-KISAN has reached the accounts of farmers of the nation,” Modi told the gathering, as quoted by ANI. In his speech he put the figure at more than ₹18,000 crore for nearly 10 crore farmers, rounder numbers than the ministry’s. He said over 50 lakh farmers in Gujarat had received more than ₹1,000 crore, and that nearly ₹50 crore had reached farm families in Banaskantha district alone, ANI reported.
The Gujarat figure is consistent with the ₹2,000 rate. NewsPlainly’s check: ₹1,000 crore divided by ₹2,000 a farmer gives 50 lakh farmers.
The event was also about cattle and dairy. Punjab Newsline reported that Modi said nearly 150 crore vaccine doses had been given to animals under the free vaccination programme, and that the average milk yield per cow or buffalo had gone from under 5 litres in 2013-14 to about 8 litres. He also laid foundation stones for two bio-CNG plants. Reports put the projects launched in Gujarat during the visit at more than ₹14,000 crore, and he flagged off two train services, including an Ahmedabad (Sabarmati) to Varanasi express.
Ahead of the event, the ministry said in a press release that the Prime Minister would also dedicate 521 units built under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (a central loan scheme for warehouses, cold stores and processing units) and inaugurate 12 horticulture clusters. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was to attend a linked event at Raisen in Madhya Pradesh.

PM Kisan 24th instalment against the 23rd
The last payment, the 23rd, was released on 20 June 2026 from Tarakeswar in Hooghly, West Bengal. Putting the two government releases side by side shows how the numbers moved.
| Instalment | Date and place | Amount | Farmers |
|---|---|---|---|
| 23rd (at release) | 20 June 2026, Tarakeswar, West Bengal | over ₹18,880 crore | 9.44 crore |
| 23rd (Cabinet note, 31 July) | Same instalment, later count | over ₹18,984 crore | over 9.49 crore |
| 24th (ministry, 29 October) | 30 October 2026, Banaskantha, Gujarat | over ₹18,690 crore | over 9.34 crore |
Two things stand out. First, the 24th instalment starts with about 10 lakh fewer farmers than the 23rd did on its release day (9.44 crore against 9.34 crore, NewsPlainly’s calculation). The ministry’s release did not explain the gap. Second, the June count did not stay fixed: by 31 July the government said the 23rd instalment had reached more than 9.49 crore farmers. So the 24th instalment’s first-day figure may also change as late payments go through.
A quick check on the per-head amount: ₹18,690 crore spread across 9.34 crore farmers works out to about ₹2,001 each, in line with the fixed ₹2,000 payment (NewsPlainly’s calculation; both official figures are “more than” amounts).

How much PM Kisan has paid out so far
The scheme was launched on 24 February 2019. Each eligible landholding farmer family gets ₹6,000 a year in three equal instalments of ₹2,000, according to PIB. The ministry said more than ₹4.47 lakh crore had been paid through the first 23 instalments. Adding this instalment’s ₹18,690 crore takes the total to about ₹4.65 lakh crore, by NewsPlainly’s calculation.
The money for this year is also in view. The Union Budget for 2026-27 set aside ₹60,000 crore for the scheme. The 23rd instalment (₹18,984 crore, the July figure) and the 24th (₹18,690 crore) both fall in this financial year, which runs from April 2026 to March 2027. Together they come to ₹37,674 crore, or about 63% of the budget, NewsPlainly’s calculation shows.
On 31 July 2026 the Union Cabinet approved running the scheme from 2026-27 to 2030-31 with an outlay of ₹3.15 lakh crore. The same release said nearly one in four beneficiaries is a woman farmer.

How to check your PM Kisan status and beneficiary list
The official portal, pmkisan.gov.in, has a “Know Your Status” option. Moneycontrol described the steps: enter your registration number and the captcha code, then the one-time password (OTP) sent to your registered mobile number. The status page shows whether the instalment has been credited.
To see if your name is on the PM Kisan beneficiary list, use the “Beneficiary List” option on the same portal and choose your state, district, sub-district, block and village. Farmers who did not get an SMS about the payment can still check this way.
If the money has not arrived, the scheme’s own conditions are the first place to look. PIB’s June backgrounder says benefits are paid once a farmer’s land records are seeded on the PM Kisan portal, the bank account is linked with Aadhaar, and e-KYC (electronic identity verification) is complete. The portal has a separate eKYC option for that step.
What farmers say they do with the money
The PM Kisan 24th instalment arrives just before Diwali, as Moneycontrol noted. In an evaluation by NITI Aayog, the government’s policy think tank, quoted by the government in July, more than 92% of beneficiaries said they used the money for farming, and about 85% reported higher farm income and less reliance on informal loans. These are survey responses reported by the government, not an audit of every account.
For farmers whose names dropped out between June and October, the practical step is the PM Kisan status check above, followed by a look at the village beneficiary list. The ministry has not published, in the material read, a break-up of why the count is lower this time. NewsPlainly has also reported on the government’s digital Farmer ID drive: Farmer ID count crosses 11 crore.
