Why it matters
Kali Puja is one of Kolkata's busiest nights for temple visits, and the metro is the quickest way to Dakshineswar. Knowing the new first and last trains helps families avoid being stranded late at night, and Purple and Orange line users need to plan other transport.
Kolkata Metro Kali Puja services on Sunday, 8 November 2026, will start earlier and end later on two lines. The Blue Line will start about an hour early and run until 11 pm, the Green Line will add 12 trips and also run until 11 pm, and the Yellow Line will keep its normal Sunday timetable, Metro Railway Kolkata said in a statement on 6 November, according to the Press Trust of India (PTI).
The Purple Line (Joka to Majerhat) and the Orange Line (Kavi Subhas to Beleghata) will stay shut, as they do every Sunday. The railway said the extra trains are meant to help devotees going to the Dakshineswar and Kalighat temples.
Kolkata Metro Kali Puja timings, line by line
On the Blue Line, which runs north to south between Dakshineswar and Shahid Khudiram, 152 trains will run on Sunday, 76 in each direction. The first train from Noapara to Shahid Khudiram will leave at 7:54 am. Services from Shahid Khudiram towards Mahanayak Uttam Kumar (Tollygunge) and Dakshineswar will start at 8 am, PTI reported.
At night, the last train from Shahid Khudiram to Dakshineswar will leave at 11 pm. In the other direction, the last train from Dakshineswar to Shahid Khudiram will leave at 10:40 pm. The Bengali daily Sangbad Pratidin, which listed the same times, also reported a last train from Dakshineswar to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar at 11 pm.
The Green Line, the east to west route between Howrah Maidan and Salt Lake Sector V, will run 123 trains instead of the usual 111: 61 in the up direction and 62 in the down direction. The first train from Howrah Maidan will leave at 8 am and the first from Sector V at 8:02 am. The last trains will leave both ends at 11 pm, half an hour later than usual.
The Yellow Line between Noapara and Jai Hind Bimanbandar (the airport) will run 78 trains, 39 each way, on its existing timetable. Its first trains leave Noapara at 9:18 am and the airport at 9:40 am, and its last trains leave at 9 pm and 9:20 pm.

Kolkata Metro Sunday timings: what changes from a normal Sunday
Sangbad Pratidin printed each special time next to the normal Kolkata Metro timings it replaces. NewsPlainly put those side by side:
| Line and train | Normal Sunday | Kali Puja, 8 November |
|---|---|---|
| Blue: first, Noapara to Shahid Khudiram | 9:00 am | 7:54 am |
| Blue: first, Shahid Khudiram to Dakshineswar | 9:00 am | 8:00 am |
| Blue: last, Shahid Khudiram to Dakshineswar | 10:15 pm | 11:00 pm |
| Blue: last, Dakshineswar to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar | 10:18 pm | 11:00 pm |
| Green: first, Howrah Maidan to Sector V | 9:00 am | 8:00 am |

| Green: last, both directions | 10:30 pm | 11:00 pm |
| Yellow: all trains | No change | No change |
| Purple and Orange | Closed | Closed |
By NewsPlainly’s count, the Shahid Khudiram to Dakshineswar service day stretches from 13 hours 15 minutes (9 am to 10:15 pm) to 15 hours (8 am to 11 pm), 1 hour 45 minutes longer. On the Green Line the day grows by 1 hour 30 minutes, and the 12 added trips are about 11% more trains than a normal Sunday. The reports did not give the Blue Line’s normal Sunday train count, so we cannot say how many trips were added there.

Why the Blue Line matters most on Kali Puja
The Metro statement, as reported by PTI, tied the extra Kolkata Metro Kali Puja trains to two temples: Dakshineswar and Kalighat. Dakshineswar, home to the Dakshineswar Kali Temple, is the northern end of the Blue Line, so the earlier start and the 11 pm last train on that stretch are the changes most visitors will use.
For a family heading home late from Dakshineswar, the detail to note is the direction. The last train out of Dakshineswar towards Shahid Khudiram leaves at 10:40 pm, 20 minutes before the last train arriving from the south. Anyone travelling from Howrah or Sector V on the Green Line has until 11 pm at either end.

Who should plan around the Kolkata Metro schedule on Sunday
For anyone who has to travel early on Sunday, the change on the Blue and Green lines is an 8 am start instead of 9 am, by Sangbad Pratidin’s comparison. Yellow Line users, including air travellers going to or from the Jai Hind Bimanbandar station, should note that the Kolkata Metro Sunday timetable on their line does not change, with the last train from Noapara at 9 pm.
People who use the Purple Line (Joka to Majerhat) or the Orange Line (Kavi Subhas to Beleghata) will need other transport on Sunday, since both lines are shut as on other Sundays. The statement, as reported, did not mention any change for Monday. For more news from the state, see our West Bengal page, and for the original report, read PTI’s copy on ThePrint.
