Why it matters

Mary Kom was the best-known name in the Bigg Boss 20 house, and her exit removes her from the viewer vote for the rest of the season. It also shows how the two-lifeline format works in practice: once a contestant has lost one lifeline, a second loss ends the stay, whatever their fame outside.

The latest Bigg Boss 20 eviction has taken out the season’s most decorated contestant. Boxer Mary Kom left the house on the Weekend Ka Vaar episode of Saturday, 24 October 2026, after she lost the second of her two lifelines, Gulf News reported. Filmmaker Rohit Shetty, standing in for Salman Khan as host, announced the result. She had lasted seven weeks.

Her farewell was a warm one. Housemates sang “You are a champion” as she walked out, and Bhojpuri actor Aamrapali Dubey was in tears, Gulf News and Pinkvilla reported.

How Rohit Shetty announced the Bigg Boss 20 eviction

Evictions on the show usually come on Sunday. This time Shetty announced it on Saturday, a day earlier than the usual Sunday, according to an agency report carried by Sentinel Assam on 26 October. Shetty was hosting both weekend episodes because Salman Khan had told viewers on 18 October that a work commitment would keep him away, as NewsPlainly reported on Saturday.

This season runs on lifelines. Each contestant has two, and losing one leaves less room for error in later eviction rounds, the Sentinel report explained. A contestant who loses both is out. Mary Kom reached that point on Saturday. Gulf News, citing the Indian Express, said she lost her second lifeline in the episode, leaving her with no protection. The reports read for this article did not say when or how she lost the first one.

She was one of seven housemates up for eviction this week. The nominations episode that streamed on 21 October named Arishfa Khan, Uditi Singh, Manish Goel, Aamrapali Dubey, Love Gill, Gullu and Mary Kom, as we reported at the time. Manish Goel, a television actor who joined as a wildcard, also lost a lifeline on Saturday but still has one left, according to Gulf News and Sentinel Assam. Gulf News, citing News9 Live, said Shetty brought in a new rule on lifelines during the episode; neither report spelled out its terms.

Mary Kom’s goodbye to the Bigg Boss house

Before leaving, she thanked the others in a mix of Hindi and English. Gulf News quoted her as saying “Main itna din khel paya, itna experience mila”, which means she was glad to have played for so many days and to have had the experience. She also told them: “Thank you guys. It felt good spending time with you guys.”

Then came the boxer’s joke. “Ring mein kisi ko nahi chodungi,” she said, as Pinkvilla reported it, laughing that she would not have spared any of them if they had met her in the ring.

She had a few words for individual housemates. She told Gullu to keep playing well, and said social media creator Arishfa Khan reminded her of her own daughter, both outlets reported. Over the seven weeks she had grown close to Gullu, Qazi Touqeer, Yung DSA and Kanika Mann, among others, according to the Sentinel report.

From the boxing ring to the Bigg Boss house

Few reality show contestants arrive with a record like hers. Gulf News listed it: the only woman to win the world amateur boxing title six times, eight world championship medals in all, a bronze at the London 2012 Olympics, India’s first gold for a woman boxer at the Asian Games in 2014, Commonwealth Games gold in 2018 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2020. She is from Imphal in Manipur.

She came in as the season’s senior-most contestant and promised order. “I will bring discipline in the house; everyone should wake up at one time,” she told the Indian Express in September, as ThePrint reported. She also said one person should not be left to do all the cooking and cleaning.

Her stay was not free of controversy. Some of her remarks inside the house about her boxing records drew criticism online, and her team posted a clarification and apology on her official account, saying the words were not meant to belittle her own achievements or compare them with another athlete’s, Gulf News reported. Actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who played her in the 2014 film Mary Kom, had cheered her on when she entered.

Where Bigg Boss 20 goes from here
