Why it matters

The win gives Smriti Mandhana her first series victory as India's full-time ODI captain after India recovered from an early collapse. Deepti's century was her first in the format since 2017, and Vaishnavi Sharma took her first four ODI wickets. The final match will decide whether India complete a sweep.

The second India women vs Zimbabwe ODI ended in a 121-run win for the hosts at the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) Stadium in Vadodara on Sunday, 25 October 2026, giving India an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the three-match One Day International (ODI) series. Harmanpreet Kaur made 126 and Deepti Sharma an unbeaten 106 as India reached 328 for 6, and Zimbabwe were bowled out for 207 in 48.5 overs, the official BCCI scorecard records.

The result also gave Smriti Mandhana her first series win since becoming India’s full-time ODI captain, ESPNcricinfo noted. Mandhana herself made a duck, while Harmanpreet was named Player of the Match.

How India recovered from 19 for 2

India chose to bat after winning the toss in the second Vadodara ODI, news agency Asian News International (ANI) reported, and the start went badly. Mandhana was caught at short third in the opening over, trying to pull a ball that stopped on the pitch. Shafali Verma followed in the third over for 8, both wickets to Zimbabwe’s Sibanda, who finished with 2 for 38.

Harmanpreet Kaur joined opener Pratika Rawal with India on 19 for 2. Rawal was careful outside off stump early, then hit the only two sixes of India’s innings on her way to 61 off 67 balls, her ninth ODI fifty. The pair added 124 for the third wicket before Zimbabwe took two wickets in eight balls: Rawal caught in the deep in the 23rd over and Tejal Hasabnis caught at mid-on by Michelle Mavunga in the next.

That left India on 148 for 4, as recorded in the official scorecard. From there Deepti Sharma attacked Zimbabwe’s spinners with sweeps and pulls, going from 16 to 55 in 23 balls, while Harmanpreet Kaur kept the strike moving. Zimbabwe captain Josephine Nkomo dropped Harmanpreet on 68 at short midwicket.

Harmanpreet reached her eighth ODI hundred off 102 balls in the 41st over and was out in the 47th for 126 off 121 balls, with 15 fours. ANI reported that the century moves her into outright second place on the list of Indian women with the most ODI hundreds.

Deepti Sharma’s century after 3,450 days

Deepti Sharma went into the final over on 97. She swept Makusha for four to reach 100, hit the next ball for four as well, and finished on 106 not out off 86 balls, also with 15 fours. It was only her second ODI century. ESPNcricinfo said it came 3,450 days after her first, in 2017, the second-longest gap between hundreds in women’s ODIs.

Deepti and Harmanpreet Kaur added 153 for the fifth wicket. BCCI’s fall-of-wickets record puts India at 148 for 4 when Hasabnis departed and 301 for 5 when Harmanpreet was dismissed, which gives the partnership total directly.

By NewsPlainly’s calculation from the scorecard, the two centurions scored 232 of India’s 328 runs, about 71% of the total. The other six batters added 82 between them, 61 of those from Rawal, and extras made up the remaining 14.

Vaishnavi Sharma’s 4 for 39 in her second ODI

Zimbabwe’s chase began well. Modester Mupachikwa hit Sayali Satghare for two fours off the first two balls, and Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano went after the spinners. The two added 69 for the second wicket and Zimbabwe were 107 for 1 in the 22nd over, still 222 short of the target.

Satghare bowled Mugeri-Tiripano for 46 off 57 balls in the 23rd over. Left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma, playing only her second ODI because Kranti Gaud was rested, then removed Mupachikwa for 49, caught by substitute Harleen Deol at backward point. It was Vaishnavi Sharma’s first ODI wicket.

She added three more: Beloved Biza leg before wicket (lbw) for 34 after an India review, Mavunga bowled, and Nkomo lbw. Deepti Sharma took two wickets in two balls in the 46th over and finished with 3 for 32, ANI reported. N Shree Charani, Satghare and Jintimani Kalita took one each.
