Why it matters

Scene opened a day after Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, so its first figures show how a big Tamil film fared in the same Diwali week. The numbers are a tracker's estimates, not the producers' own.

Suriya’s new Tamil film Scene earned an estimated ₹34.25 crore gross worldwide on its opening day, Friday 6 November 2026, according to box office tracker Sacnilk. Of that, ₹22.25 crore came from cinemas in India and ₹12 crore from overseas. The Scene box office total for India came to ₹19.15 crore net, the tracker’s final day-one update shows.

Directed by Jithu Madhavan, Suriya’s Scene is an action comedy that pairs him with Naslen and Nazriya Nazim. It released in Tamil and Telugu. It is Suriya’s third film of 2026, after Karuppu and Vishwanath and Sons, the Indian Express noted.

Scene box office day 1, in numbers

These figures are Sacnilk’s estimates. The producers had not put out their own number in the reports read, so treat them as a tracker’s count rather than an official total. Two terms matter here. Net is what the film takes after taxes such as GST are removed; gross is the full ticket value. Sacnilk gives India figures both ways but the worldwide total only as gross, so the ₹19.15 crore and ₹34.25 crore figures are not measured the same way.

By Sacnilk’s count, Suriya’s Scene played 6,167 shows in India on Friday and sold about 14.31 lakh tickets. The Tamil version earned ₹16.15 crore net from 4,878 shows, with average occupancy of 57.1%. The Telugu version added ₹3 crore net from 1,289 shows at 47.1% occupancy.

Tamil Nadu brought in ₹10.75 crore of the India gross, about 48% of it, and Kerala was the second-biggest market at ₹5.75 crore, the Times of India reported from the same data.

A few things stand out from the Scene day 1 numbers, by NewsPlainly’s calculation. The Tamil version made up about 84% of the India net. Overseas cinemas supplied about 35% of the Scene worldwide collection. Spread across all 6,167 shows, the film earned roughly ₹31,000 net per show.

How the opening compares with Suriya’s other 2026 films

Suriya’s Scene made a worldwide start ahead of Vishwanath and Sons by ₹2.51 crore, the Times of India reported. That film opened at ₹31.74 crore worldwide, with ₹17.74 crore gross in India and ₹14 crore overseas. So Scene did better at home and Vishwanath and Sons did better abroad.

Against Karuppu, Suriya’s first release of the year, the comparison is only possible for India. Karuppu opened at ₹17.93 crore gross, according to the Indian Express, and ₹15.50 crore net, according to The Week. The Scene box office gross of ₹22.25 crore is about ₹4.32 crore higher. The reports read do not give Karuppu’s first-day worldwide figure, so it cannot be said from them whether Scene is Suriya’s biggest worldwide opener this year.

Scene worldwide collection: forecast and result

On the morning of release, Sacnilk projected the Scene box office take at ₹22 crore to ₹30 crore gross in India and said early overseas estimates suggested it could pass ₹35 crore worldwide. The final India gross of ₹22.25 crore landed at the bottom of that range, and the worldwide figure ended about ₹75 lakh short of ₹35 crore, by NewsPlainly’s count.

Advance sales had pointed to a strong start. Suriya’s Scene sold ₹12.17 crore of first-day tickets in advance including blocked seats, or ₹11.04 crore without them, according to Sacnilk. The tracker said that was second among Suriya’s films, behind Kanguva’s ₹17.61 crore.

Scene box office against Ramayana in the Diwali week

Suriya’s Scene opened a day after Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, the Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi film, which released on 5 November. Sacnilk estimated Ramayana’s first day at ₹64.85 crore net in India and ₹127.50 crore worldwide gross, the Economic Times reported. Ramayana also played in Tamil, but The Week said only ₹2.60 crore of its first-day net came from Tamil shows. Another Tamil release, Mookuthi Amman 2, earned ₹1.19 crore net on its first day, according to The Week.

Suriya’s brother, actor Karthi, praised the film on social media after release, the Indian Express reported. The film is produced by Suriya and Jyothika under their banner, 2D Entertainment, the outlet said. NewsPlainly reported Ramayana’s first-day box office on 6 November.

What to watch over the weekend

Advance bookings were spread across the Diwali weekend, not only Friday. The Week reported ₹26.05 crore of advance sales for the weekend as a whole, about 47% of it for the opening day, based on Sacnilk data. Saturday’s Scene box office figure, for the film’s second day, will be the first sign of how it holds up after the opening rush. No day-two figure had been published in the reports read at the time of writing.
