Why it matters
Fans who bought tickets for the Delhi show faced a day of uncertainty over refunds and travel plans. The reversal shows that police permission for a large concert can turn on the security plan the organisers submit.
The Diljit Dosanjh concert at Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium in Delhi on 30 October 2026 will go ahead, a day after Delhi Police had turned down the organisers’ request. Ticketing platform BookMyShow Live told The Hindu on 23 October that permission had been issued after a meeting with the police, and called reports of a cancellation inaccurate.
The show is the Delhi stop of the Punjabi singer’s Aura India Tour. Fans who hold tickets do not need to do anything for now: the date and venue are unchanged, according to the organisers.
Why Delhi Police first said no to the Diljit Dosanjh concert
The organisers applied for permission on 14 October. In a letter seen by The Hindu, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for the South district, Anant Mittal, said the request could not be granted because of specific threat-related inputs, the security and law and order duties of the festive season, and other law and order concerns. The decision was sent to BookMyShow and reported on 22 October.
The police did not say in public what the threat inputs were, or which festive season duties would clash with a stadium show of this size on 30 October.
For a few hours the Diljit Dosanjh concert looked uncertain. The organisers did not announce a cancellation or a new venue, and said talks with the police were going on, The Hindu reported. Dosanjh’s own team was part of those discussions.

How the JLN Stadium show got Delhi Police permission
The organisers held more than one meeting with the police and presented detailed plans on security, the news agency ANI (Asian News International) quoted Delhi Police officials as saying, after which the permission was reconsidered and granted. BookMyShow Live said it had submitted a plan covering safety, traffic and crowd management and promised to meet every requirement.
For the Diljit Dosanjh concert, the organisers agreed to conditions set by the police, including on private security staff and crowd management, NewsX reported. The full security plan has not been made public.
The Delhi Police permission came within about a day of the refusal. The Hindu’s report on the denial was published on the afternoon of 22 October, and its report on the permission on the afternoon of 23 October.
What political leaders and Diljit said about the Delhi Police decision
The first refusal drew criticism from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which governs Punjab. AAP’s Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj wrote on X that the government was biased against the singer, linking it to Dosanjh’s support for the farmers’ movement, according to The Hindu. AAP MLA Jarnail Singh asked why security concerns had not been handled with proper planning and said artists and fans deserved clarity.
Delhi Police had given its reasons in the letter: threat inputs and festive season duties. It has not responded publicly to the AAP’s charge of bias in the reports available. The BJP had not commented on the AAP’s remarks in the reports reviewed.
Dosanjh did not refer to the Delhi Police decision directly. He posted a video on social media in which he spoke about facing difficulties and keeping faith, saying obstacles make him more motivated, NewsX reported. The caption, which roughly translates as “Everyone is under the Divine Command”, mentioned the 30 October Delhi show.
Where the Aura India Tour goes after the Diljit Dosanjh concert in Delhi
Dosanjh and BookMyShow announced the India leg of the Aura tour in a joint Instagram post on 4 October. That first schedule, Moneycontrol reported, listed shows in Indore on 15 November, Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on 21 November, Mumbai on 27 November, Bengaluru on 29 November and Lucknow on 5 December, with a Chandigarh date to be announced. The Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region) show in that list was dated 1 November; the Delhi Police letter and the organisers now give the JLN date as 30 October.
The Ahmedabad concert marks the Aura tour’s debut at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Dosanjh said in a statement at the launch that performing in his own country had a completely different vibe and that he was excited to meet fans from Delhi to Indore.

The Delhi Police permission means the Aura India Tour now opens on schedule in the capital. Other recent entertainment coverage on NewsPlainly includes the Ranbir Kapoor apology row.
