Why it matters

Anyone who needs a bank branch in November, to deposit cash, submit paper forms or a pensioner's life certificate, or use a locker, has fewer working days in many cities. Holidays differ by city, so a date that is a holiday in Mumbai may be a normal working day in Chennai. Digital payments are not affected.

Bank holidays in November 2026 fall on 10 weekdays across India, according to the Reserve Bank of India’s list of holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, but no city closes on all of them. The busiest dates are Diwali week, from 9 to 11 November, and Guru Nanak Jayanti on 24 November, when branches in 21 of the 34 cities on RBI’s list shut.

On top of these, banks are closed on every Sunday (1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 November) and on the second and fourth Saturdays, which this month are 14 and 28 November. UPI, net banking and ATMs are not affected by branch holidays, as explained below.

Bank holidays in November 2026: date-wise list from RBI

RBI publishes its list by the cities where it has regional offices, not by state. The table gives each weekday bank holiday, the festival and the cities where bank branches will be shut, with the state in brackets. Belapur is in Navi Mumbai.

RBI’s November list shows no weekday bank holiday at all for six of its cities: Chennai, Guwahati, Kochi, Panaji, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada. Banks there close only on Sundays and the two Saturdays.

The list can change. When NewsPlainly first read RBI’s page on 28 October, it did not include a holiday on 2 November; the reading on 30 October showed Shillong’s Nongkrem Dance holiday on that date. Check the RBI holiday page for your city before a planned branch visit.

Where bank holidays in November make long breaks

NewsPlainly worked out the longest stretches of closed days by adding Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays to RBI’s dates:

  • Gangtok: four days in a row, from Sunday 8 November to Wednesday 11 November.
  • Shillong: three days, from Friday 13 November (Wangala) to Sunday 15 November. Its other two holidays, 2 and 23 November, are Mondays, so each makes a two-day break with the Sunday before.
  • Bengaluru: three days, from Friday 27 November (Kanakadasa Jayanti) to Sunday 29 November, because 28 November is the fourth Saturday.
  • Patna and Ranchi: two days, Sunday 15 November and the Chhath Puja bank holiday on Monday 16 November.
  • Kanpur, Lucknow and Imphal: Sunday 8 and Monday 9 November are both off, banks open on 10 November, then close again on 11 November.

Dehradun, Gangtok, Kanpur, Lucknow and Shillong have the most weekday holidays this month, three each.

Do UPI, ATMs and net banking work on bank holidays?

Yes. A bank holiday closes branches, not digital services. Customers can still use UPI, net banking and mobile banking apps on these days, and ATMs stay available subject to cash, Outlook Money reported on 28 October. Goodreturns, in its November holiday report on 24 October, said UPI generally works round the clock, including on Sundays and bank holidays.

Money transfers through NEFT (National Electronic Funds Transfer) also keep running: RBI’s NEFT FAQ (frequently asked questions) page says NEFT is available round the clock on all days of the year. Anything that needs a branch counter has to wait for a working day.

Planning a branch visit around bank holidays in November

The list matters most for people who need a branch: those paying cash into an account, submitting paper forms, or visiting for a loan or locker. Some other published lists give different dates, such as Diwali on Sunday 8 November or Chhath on 15 November; this article uses only RBI’s own list, which marks the weekday closures.

The annual life certificate window for pensioners opens on 1 November, and those submitting it in person at a branch will find it shut on their city’s bank holiday dates. Our guide to the new rules from 1 November 2026 has the other dates for the month.
