Why it matters
An armed attack on a film star in a busy part of Mumbai raises questions about how gangs operate in the city and how safe public figures are. The case also tests whether police can trace who ordered the attack, not just who carried it out.
Seven people are now under arrest over Sunday’s attack on actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai, and the three men police believe were closest to the shooting were brought back to the city on Wednesday morning. Tiger Shroff escaped without injury when gunmen fired at his car in Juhu, but two other men were hurt. Here is what police have said on record so far, and what is still unconfirmed.
What happened to Tiger Shroff in Juhu
The attack took place on the evening of Sunday, 18 October 2026, near Pushpa Park in Juhu, as the actor was leaving a football ground. Police said the attackers fired five to six rounds at his car before escaping on a motorcycle towards SV Road, PTI reported. Tiger Shroff was not hurt.
His driver and an autorickshaw driver were injured, police said. The driver was taken to Cooper Hospital in Mumbai. Reports on his condition have differed: early accounts spoke of a hand injury, while later reports, including one by Deccan Chronicle, said he had a gunshot wound to the chest and was in a serious condition. Police have not given a detailed update on his health.
Mumbai Police registered a case of attempt to murder along with charges under the Arms Act. Fifteen police teams were set up to trace the attackers, The Week reported, and a motorcycle believed to have been used in the attack was later found abandoned in Andheri.
Who has been arrested in the Tiger Shroff case
The arrests have come in two groups.
Three men were caught in Kota, Rajasthan, and handed over to Mumbai Police, which formally arrested them. A magistrate granted transit remand, and the three were driven to Mumbai early on Wednesday, 21 October, PTI reported. After a medical check at GT Hospital they were taken to the Mumbai Crime Branch’s Anti-Extortion Cell for questioning. According to the report, the three had travelled from Mumbai to Surat and boarded a train towards Jaipur before they were stopped.
Separately, the Delhi Police Special Cell arrested four people on Tuesday in Delhi and Haryana: two men aged 21 and 19, and two women aged 23. Police allege that one of the men collected a pistol and 20 rounds from Amritsar and that the two women carried the weapon to Mumbai. All seven are accused, and none has been charged in court yet. A lawyer appeared at the Crime Branch office on Wednesday and said he would defend the three men brought from Kota.
The Bishnoi gang claim and what police say
Soon after the attack, a social media post linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility. Police have not verified that post, and its authenticity is still under investigation.
What police have said is narrower. According to PTI, police said one of the three men from Kota was in touch with a man they describe as an alleged associate of the Bishnoi gang, who they believe operates from abroad. Police also suspect the four people arrested by the Delhi Police acted on that person’s instructions. Officials have said the motive is still being worked out, and investigators are checking whether the attackers had watched the area before the actor arrived.
Why this case worries Bollywood
This is not the first time the Bishnoi gang’s name has come up in an attack linked to Mumbai’s film world. In April 2024, shots were fired outside actor Salman Khan’s home in Bandra, and Mumbai Police later named jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi as a wanted accused in that case, The Tribune reported. Reports after the Tiger Shroff attack said the post claiming responsibility mentioned his friendship with Salman Khan, but that link, like the post itself, has not been confirmed by police.
NDTV reported that security around Salman Khan was increased after the attack. Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has promised strict action against those responsible.
What happens next in the Tiger Shroff case
The three men brought from Kota will be produced before a Mumbai court, where police are expected to seek custody to question them further. The four people held by the Delhi Police Special Cell may also be handed over to Mumbai Police. Key questions remain open: who ordered the attack, why Tiger Shroff was targeted, and whether the claim of responsibility is genuine.
Until police or a court say more, only the facts above are confirmed. We will update this story as the investigation moves forward. For more stories from the film world, see our entertainment section.
